Henrietta Marie Lott was born July 1922 in Houston, Texas. She was the 13th child born to William and Henrietta Lott. She was nicknamed “sweet thing” by Lilla Mae a day or two after her birth. This name stuck with her through childhood and a short time in adulthood. She graduated from Jack Yates High School and attended Houston College for Negroes. In 1942 she received a diploma from Johnson’s Business College. She was a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church for 23 years. Singing in the choir, teaching Vacation Bible School since age 16, and attending the Girls Auxiliary and Baptist Training Union were the high points of her young life. She migrated to San Francisco in 1947 and retired from the Federal Government in 1971. Her marriage to Harry Roy Horace on July 22, 1972 was a blessing from God. Together the two enrolled in Fellowship Bible Institute of San Francisco in 1973 and received diplomas. Henrietta also received diplomas from Moody Bible Institute and later received an Associates of Arts degree in Biblical Studies from the College of Theology and Urban Studies. This all was done in her desire to deepen her knowledge and relationship with the Lord. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school at El Bethel Missionary Baptist Church where she was a long time member. She passed away into eternal peace, surrounded by her family in Elk Grove, California on February 4, 2012.
